Claude Julien Supports Zdeno Chara ’100 Percent,’ Also Thinks Incident Will Help Tyler Seguin

Claude Julien said Sunday night that he had no problem with Zdeno Chara‘s fight, even if it may have cost the team a win. He stood by those sentiments on Monday as well.

The Bruins coach addressed the media following practice in Wilmington, and he continued to support Chara, who took 17 penalty minutes after fighting Alexei Emelin in the second period of Boston’s 4-3 loss to the Canadiens. Chara was defending B’s forward Tyler Seguin after Emelin cross-checked Seguin in the neutral zone.

“What Zdeno Chara did [Sunday], I support 100 percent,” Julien said, according to Boston.com. “Besides that 17 minutes of penalties he got, what he did is going to go a long way for our hockey club. Especially for Tyler Seguin. Tyler’s a good player. He needs to know everybody’s got his back. Zdeno showed that yesterday.”

In the process, though, the Bruins allowed two goals while Chara sat in the penalty box. Yet, Julien also thinks that this situation will aid Seguin in his development as a young player.

“That will allow Tyler to become a better player. When you know people have your back, you can play at ease. That thing that Zdeno did [Sunday] certainly is going to help Tyler be comfortable.”
