Daryl Morey Quotes ‘Airplane’ While Tweeting Good Luck to Thunder Before, After Game Against Lakers

Daryl Morey and his Houston Rockets were the biggest Oklahoma City Thunder fans in the world on Tuesday night.

The Rockets’ general manager tweeted good luck to Oklahoma City before and after the Lakers-Thunder matchup. He did this, of course, because Houston is fighting Los Angeles for a playoff spot. The Rockets are currently the No. 7 seed with a 33-28 record, while the Lakers are 30-31 and out of the playoff race right now.

Morey tweeted his well wishes in a way that only “Dork Elvis” (as Bill Simmons calls him) could, by quoting Airplane.

The Thunder went on to win the game 122-105. NBA players, and general mangers, have really stepped up their Twitter game this year. Multiple players have responded to criticism this season via the social media site, including Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. Surely Bryant will have a response to Morey’s tweet somewhere down the line (“I am serious … and don’t call me Shirley”).

Check out the famous scene from Airplane that Morey quoted in his tweets to the Thunder.

Quote of the Day

“Everything. There’s not one part of his game that he doesn’t need to improve. … Hopefully some of our guys are working out with him and they’re throwing. But really, within the offseason, your arm strength, your strength, your footwork, basically your fundamentals of football. And obviously he needs to get better with his deep ball accuracy and touch, and there’s not really one part of his game that he can’t really improve upon.”
