The Miami Heat won’t be the only team riding into Monday night’s game against the Celtics on a streak.
The C’s will suit up at TD Garden looking to extend their 11 home-game win streak to 12 games — a streak that started Jan. 27 against the Heat, coincidentally. The Heat charge ahead, looking to extend their win streak to 23, which would surpass the 2008-09 Houston Rockets for the second-longest winning streak in NBA history.
The weight of Monday night’s game has not slipped past Miami guard Dwyane Wade, as he told reporters the challenges his team faces playing in Boston.
“Obviously any time we play Boston in Boston, it is a tough place to play,” he said. “They play very well versus us [and] have been playing very well as of late. We have to get our rest and we know we are going to have a dog fight on our hands.”
The Heat have lost 10 straight regular-season games against Boston at the Garden, with Monday night opening itself up as Miami’s chance to turn the corner — especially with injured Celtics center Kevin Garnett being a 50-50 decision for the game. The Celtics, however, will not make it easy for them.
Whichever way the game goes, somebody’s streak will end Monday night. And if Paul Pierce had his druthers, the Heat would drop the rest of their games the entire season. Step No. 1 to making that happen: Beat the Heat.
