Greg Jennings committed mutiny against the Green Bay Packers when he decided to sign with the Minnesota Vikings late last week. But it looks like the decision may have been aided by the other famous Packers turncoat.
Jennings, who inked a five-year, $47.5 million deal with the Vikes on Friday, apparently got some help with his decision from former Packers turned Vikings quarterback Brett Favre, as he revealed during a radio interview on Tuesday.
Favre served as something of a guide from Jennings throughout the process, even welcoming him to Minnesota with a phone call upon his initial visit with the Vikings.
“Literally, as I got off the plane and [Vikings offensive coordinator Bill]Â Musgrave walked up to me, I’m on the phone with Brett,” Jennings said. “I spoke with Brett two or three times throughout this process. He shot me straight. I knew if there was one person that would shoot straight and tell me exactly what I wanted to hear and things I possibly didn’t want to hear, it would be Brett. He did that for me.”
Packers fans seemed to be finally getting over the sting of Favre’s betrayal, especially considering the emergence of his successor Aaron Rodgers. But this most recent act of dissent might undo all of the good will that had been restored.
As for Jennings, he should be expecting the resounding roar of boo birds upon his return to Lambeau Field next season and for each of the next five.
