When the Bruins traded away Adam Oates, they received a hero’s ransom in return for the outgoing legend.
In one of the biggest blockbuster deals of the 1990s, the B’s shipped Oates, Rick Tocchet and Bill Ranford to the Washington Capitals for Jim Carey, Anson Carter, Jason Allison, a third-round draft pick in the 1997 draft and a conditional second-round pick for 1998.
Carey played two seasons in goal for Boston, but ultimately played more for the team’s AHL squad than the big league squad. The netminder suited up for 40 games in Providence and only played in 29 for Boston.
