The stakes would get 10 times higher if LeBron James finally agreed to take part in the NBA slam dunk contest.
Magic Johnson said he would offer $1 million to the winner of the competition if the Heat star finally put his hat in the ring. The current prize is $100,000.
“Please, LeBron, get in the dunk contest,” Johnson said on NBA Countdown Friday night. “I’m going to put up a million dollars.”
Johnson’s ESPN partner, Bill Simmons, even tweeted he’d add a little extra prize money (emphasis on little).

James has never participated in the contest and said recently that he thinks he’s too old to compete now. The topic has come up again recently because James has been showing off his impressive dunking arsenal before Heat games in pregame warmups. James threatened to quit his showstopping dunks if complaints continue about his refusal to participate in the NBA All-Star Weekend event.
Now James has some extra incentive and an entire year to prepare for next year’s contest. Adding superstars to the competition would surely liven it up.
