That’s the next time the Bruins and Canadiens meet on the ice, and after comments made by both sides over the last two days, it’s sure to be a heated affair.
On Monday, members of the Habs responded to claims made by Bruins coach Claude Julien that Montreal skaters commonly embellish penalties to draw calls from the referees.
“I’ve known Claude for a long time and I’ve been coaching teams against him for a long time, too,” Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien told reporters at morning practice. “To me, those comments that he made were ridiculous and I think he was very frustrated to have lost that game. Claude can concentrate on his team and I’ll concentrate on my own.”
Several Bruins players echoed their coach’s sentiments after Montreal’s 3-2 win Sunday night, agreeing with Julien’s assertion that the Canadiens’ embellishment was “an embarrassment” to the game. Habs winger Max Pacioretty fired back the following day, saying that the Bruins were envious of the first-place Canadiens’ recent success.
“[It’s] jealousy,” Pacioretty told reporters. “We’re at the top right now and reading comments like that is awesome. If we’re in last place, they wouldn’t be saying anything about us, but we’re in first place and it’s the best feeling in the world.”
Montreal leads the Bruins by two points in the Eastern Conference standings but has played three more games than the B’s.
