It seems like the kind of play that only happens in the movies, but Oregon Ducks pitcher Jeff Gold is turning fiction into fact.
The Ducks were taking on the Cal State Northridge Matadors on Tuesday when CSUN’s Ryan Raslowsky hit one back to the box with Gold on the mound. However, the pitcher was unable to get the ball out of his glove, as it had stuck in the webbing, and Golf tossed the entire glove to first base to record the out. However, credit Ducks first baseman Ryon Healy for sticking with the play, as the ball came out mid-toss, with the glove tumbling behind the play.
Of course, this play isn’t just the work of Hollywood. Orlando Hernandez once did it to get an out, as did Terry Mullholland. There are probably more than that, too, but check out Gold’s efforts in the video below.
