Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith is using the power of rhymes for a good cause.
As reported by WJZ’s Christie Ileto, Smith’s fiancee, Chanel Williams, is a fourth grade teacher at Dogwood Elementary School in Baltimore County. The two teamed up to create a video to encourage Williams’ students to study for a state-wide standardized test.
Set to the beat of “Teach Me How To Dougie,” the rap says, “all you need is a pencil in your hand and then you can do the best you can.”
Williams says the rhyme encourages students to study for the Maryland School Assessment Tests, known as the MSAs. The annual test gauges Maryland’s third through eighth graders on their reading and math abilities.
Smith lends his dancing abilities to the video, and chimes in with support throughout the rap. Williams told Ileto that having Smith make an appearance gave her students an extra boost.
“They love Torrey and my kids like rap and they’re motivated by music,” Williams said.
The video has already gotten more than 30,000 hits on YouTube. Check out the rap below.
