The Bruins made a peculiar move on Wednesday afternoon around the waiver wire.
According to reports, the B’s claimed forward Kaspars Daugavins after the Senators put the 24-year-old on waivers on Monday. Daugavins will be a restricted free agent at the end of this season, and he’s making just $635,000 this season, according to CapGeek.com.
Daugavins is no stranger to the Bruins. He’s obviously formerly a member of the Senators, a Northeast Division rival, but he became known across the league just a couple of weeks ago. Daugavins grabbed headlines for this unique shootout attempt against Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask in a Boston shootout win in Ottawa.
Daugavins has just one goal and two assists in 19 games this season for Ottawa, and he was a minus-7. He’s viewed as a solid two-way player, and he was getting good run on the league’s No. 2 penalty kill in Ottawa. He was averaging 2:07 on the PK for the Sens.
