Soccer is usually played on grass or artificial turf, but on Friday the United States and Costa Rica battled it out on piles of snow, which created a fair amount of friction in the Costa Rica locker room.
After a Clint Dempsey tuck-away goal, the U.S. soared over Costa Rica in the World Cup qualifier 1-0 at Dick Sporting Goods Park, which is right on the border of the Rocky Mountains. But due to the extreme and hostile weather conditions, Costa Rica is protesting the defeat.
“It was an embarrassment to football, disrespectful to the game,” Costa Rica’s manager Jorge Luis Pinto said, according to Reuters.com.
Officials were going to postpone the game, but it would have resulted in a bulk of complications in the forthcoming traveling schedule, and they elected not to.
