In the end, Jake Long picked St. Louis over Miami — it’s not often you hear those words.
The former No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 draft signed a four-year, $34 million deal with the St. Louis Rams, according to Pro Football Talk. With incentives, Long can earn up to $36 million. The deal reportedly includes $16 million fully guaranteed with another $4 million guaranteed in 2014.
Albert Breer of NFL.com reports the Dolphins had a similar offer on the table, but Long chose the Rams over staying in Miami (despite Richie Incognito‘s spirited effort to get his line mate to stay). The Steelers were also in the mix for the left tackle’s services, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com.
Losing Long will move second-year player Jonathan Martin to left tackle for now in Miami. Martin struggled playing right tackle as a rookie, allowing six sacks, four quarterback hits and 47 quarterback pressures, according to the website Pro Football Focus. Martin was Miami’s second-round pick in 2012.
