The Patriots are very thin at wide receiver — that is not in question. But they are making moves to resolve that problem.

With most, if not all, of the big-name receivers now sealed and signed up, including Danny Amendola, the Patriots are taking their chances with the remaining free agents and are reportedly close to making a move.

The Patriots are set to sign veteran receiver Michael Jenkins, according to Jason La Confora of CBS Sports.

Jenkins is a nine-year veteran with inconsistent production during stints with the Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings. The 30-year-old receiver never lived up to his first-round draft status (29th overall in 2004), but he has developed into a reliable option over the years.

Jenkins has caught an average of 43 passes over the past eight seasons, and his production hasn’t really dropped off with age, either. He hauled in 40 passes for 449 yards and two touchdowns with the Vikings last season, which also included three grabs, 96 yards and a touchdown in Minnesota’s wild card playoff loss.
