While it feels like just yesterday that we dropped the puck on the 2013 NHL season, the NHL trade deadline is rapidly approaching.
Between now and April 3, Bruins fans are expecting the B’s brass to make at least one move to acquire either a winger, defenseman, or both.
According to CSNNE.com’s Joe Haggerty, there are at least four suitable defenseman out there that the Bruins may likely target. Among them includes the Islanders’ Mark Streit, Calgary’s Jay Bouwmeester and San Jose’s Dan Boyle, but Haggs’ source pinpoints former Boston University standout and current Oilers’ defenseman Ryan Whitney as perhaps the most fitting addition to Claude Julien‘s blueline.
“Whitney doesn’t skate as well he as he did prior to having some foot problems, but he can still play in this league,” the source told Haggs. “He can make every pass in the book and he’ll produce offense if he’s in a lineup like the Bruins.
“He could be a good fit there,” he added, “but it all depends on if Claude and [Peter] Chiarelli like him as a player.”
Whitney, 30, has just 10 points and a minus-nine rating in 24 games this year.
