Report: Tom Brady ‘Bummed Out’ That Wes Welker Signed With Denver Broncos

Enough with the Wes WelkerDanny Amendola junk. Everybody just wants to know what Tom Brady is thinking.

After the Patriots quarterback restructured his contract to free up cap space for this year and next, presumably clearing the way to bring back Welker on a multiyear deal, Welker has instead signed with the Denver Broncos. While information about how the deal happened is still coming out, with some sides saying the Patriots were already pursuing Danny Amendola as a replacement and others saying that Welker was ticked off to the point that he didn’t give the Patriots a chance to counter-offer, the bottom line is that Welker is not in New England anymore, and Brady can’t be happy.

Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston reports that someone close to Brady says he is “bummed out” by the signing. Brady has long praised and supported Welker not only as a teammate, where Welker has set team records and been Brady’s reliable outlet in the offense, but also as a friend.

Brady’s reaction is what most Patriots fans would expect, although it’s unlikely that Brady, ever mindful of The Patriot Way, would take a public cut at the team. He’s seen other valued teammates let go before and kept silent about personnel moves.

Tom E. Curran of Comcast Sports Net raised some eyebrows Wednesday when he appeared to have thoughts from the New England quarterback, although he soon clarified that he was only passing on words from people close to Brady.
