Editor’s note: As part of NFL’s Greatest Quarterback, fans will decide the best quarterback in team, division, conference and league history.
Through fan votes, we’ve narrowed down the four best quarterbacks in the history of the AFC.
Tom Brady beat out Dan Marino, Jim Kelly and Joe Namath with 80.75 percent of the vote for AFC East teams. That was after Brady beat Drew Bledsoe, Steve Grogan and Babe Parilli as the greatest quarterback in Patriots history.
Terry Bradshaw topped Boomer Esiason, Otto Graham and Joe Flacco with 46.11 percent of the vote for AFC North teams. Bradshaw toppled Ben Roethlisberger, Kordell Stewart and Neil O’Donnell as the greatest in Pittsburgh history.
Johnny Unitas won out over Mark Brunell, Warren Moon and Matt Schaub with 51.35 percent of the vote among AFC South teams’ quarterbacks. He beat out Peyton Manning, Earl Morrall and Bert Jones for the Colts.
And John Elway finished first with 61.19 percent over Ken Stabler, Dan Fouts and Len Dawson in the AFC West. Craig Morton, Brian Griese and Tim Tebow were no match for Elway in the competition for greatest quarterback in Broncos history.
So now the race is on between Brady, Bradshaw, Unitas and Elway to to determine the greatest quarterback in AFC history (we understand Unitas only played in the AFC for two seasons, but we included the Colts as an AFC team just like we included the Seahawks as an NFC team). Vote below.
