Greg SchianoWhile Rutgers’ former basketball coach is under fire for abusing players at the New Jersey University, a former football coach of the Scarlet Knights got blasted by a former player.

Anthony Davis, who just signed a five-year, $37.3 million contract extension with the 49ers, said Greg Schiano did nothing to prepare him for the NFL while at Rutgers. Davis even blasted the current Buccaneers’ head coach’s teaching style.

“Schiano didn’t do [expletive]”, Davis told NFL Draft Bible while on hand at Rutgers’ 2013 pro day. “He like, breaks your confidence down. That’s his idea of molding guys, by breaking their confidence down. But really, without confidence, you’ve got a [expletive] team.  And I feel like, what he’s doing, I thought it was because I was young and I just didn’t appreciate what he was doing, but now that I’m a little older, I just realize that his plan is not working. And I think he’s going to start finding that out soon enough.”

NFL Draft Bible originally asked Davis about Schiano because of how many players the head coach brought into the NFL from Rutgers. Davis criticized Schiano’s record while at Rutgers (68-67) and pointed out that he played poorly his first year with San Francisco because he wasn’t prepared for the pro league by his former coach.

Schiano got blasted by Kellen Winslow last season for his harsh style of coaching at Tampa Bay.

“Schiano came over there and he (yelled), ‘€˜Toes on the line! Toes on the line!’ Blowing the whistle. You can’€™t laugh. You can’t joke around. So, I decided not to go to OTAs,” Winslow said on the Real Rob Report. “They got my man Rah [Raheem Morris] up out of there, and I was loyal to him. I would take a bullet for that dude. So, I had to roll, man.”

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is close with Schiano and even had his son Steve, who is now a New England coaching assistant, play under him at Rutgers. Belichick has brought numerous players over from Rutgers including Devin McCourty, Justin Francis and Tiquan Underwood. So someone appreciates Schiano’s harsh style.
