You’ve probably never heard of Pilo, and he might not want to come to your attention this way.

The Brazilian soccer player took what could go down as the worst penalty kick in history on Sunday. It goes without saying that he missed it … badly.

His gaffe came in a lower-division Paulista A3 state championship game between America-SP and Votuporanguense, but video of the miss has already shot around the world.

Pilo, a midfielder for America-SP, won the penalty kick for his team when he was fouled in the Votuporanguense area. Instead of following the unwritten (and often-broken) rule that says players shouldn’t take penalties they earn themselves, Pilo stepped up to the spot to do the honors.

Unfortunately, he slipped just before striking the ball, and it spun off in the wrong direction. The home fans initially had a good laugh, but they weren’t in such high spirits after the game. America-SP lost 2-0.
