One small step for women in golf, one giant leap for womankind.

As one of August National’s newest and most high-profile members, former secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice had no trouble finding a partner to play a round with. On Sunday, Rice paired up with Phil Mickelson for a practice round at the club, and sported the famed green jacket that members of Augusta National have the privilege of wearing.

“On the greens … she’s a phenomenal putter,” Mickelson said of Rice.

“As soon as I saw she was a member, I called her to work up a game, just like I did  Arnold [Palmer] back in the day as an amateur. She’s just one of my favorite people to be around,” Mickelson said.

Darla Moore joined Rice last year to be the club’s first two female members after a long history of racial and gender segregation. The club first invited and accepted a black member in 1990.
