FAU CheerHeather Henderson has gone from recruiting for cheer stunts to recruiting for the Cover 2.

The Palm Beach Post is reporting that Florida Atlantic University has hired Henderson as its director of football operations. For the last eight years, Henderson was the head cheerleader coach at FAU.

Henderson may be making history with the move as the only female director of football operations at the FBS level. She has been assisting the football program in recruiting since November, and replaces Sean Todd, who was fired in December.

“There is going to be a lot on her plate,” Owls coach Carl Pelini said. “I know she can handle it. She is very organized.”

Pelini said he picked Henderson for the position because of the work she did with the program assisting with on-campus recruiting and because of her business background. Duties will include organizing on-campus recruiting visits and setting up coaches’ recruiting trips, along with setting up team road trips and organizing summer training camp.

“I’m transitioning,” Henderson said. “It’s a slow time for the operations side right now because we’re trying to get ready for next season.

The task may seem daunting, but Henderson is up for the challenge.

“I don’t think it’s overwhelming at all right now, I can do both roles.”

Henderson will continue coaching cheerleading in a limited role.
