While the number of foreign players is increasing in Major League Baseball, the league is still predominantly U.S. born.
Out of the 856 players on Opening Day rosters (active and on the disabled list), 241 were born outside the U.S, according to Hardball Talk. That’s the fourth highest of all time at 28.2 percent.
The Dominican Republic leads the way with 89 players, followed by Venezuela with 63, Canada with 17 and Cuba with 15. There are MLB players from 15 different countries and territories outside the U.S.
