Former Celtics Guard Keyon Dooling Signs With Grizzlies, Makes Announcement on Twitter

Keyon Dooling is back in the NBA, cutting short a retirement that lasted less than a full season.

Dooling has signed with the Memphis Grizzlies, the veteran guard announced Monday on Twitter. He had been rumored to be involved in negotiations for some time with the Grizzlies, who are desperate for backcourt depth.

Dooling, 32, announced his retirement prior to this season after going public with a history of abuse he suffered in his youth. He has been working out at the Celtics’ practice facility in Waltham, Mass., and he thanked the Celtics and team president of basketball operations Danny Ainge after announcing his signing on Monday.

Dooling appeared in 46 games for the Celtics during the 2011-12 season, posting averages of 4.0 points and 1.1 assists per game. He said in January that he would not play for the Celtics this season after Rajon Rondo suffered a season-ending knee injury. The Grizzlies will be his seventh NBA team.
