Joe Maddon Brings in Penguins to ‘Chill’ Rays Clubhouse Out (Video)

So, the Tampa Bay Rays, a trendy pick by many to win the AL East this season, have struggled through their first month. They came into Wednesday with a record of 9-11, good for fourth place in the division, and manager Joe Maddon thought the team needed to relax a bit.

To “chill” out the vibe in the clubhouse — his words, not ours — Maddon brought in a pair of penguins for the players to hang out with prior to their game against the Yankees.

This may have been a bigger deal in pretty much any other locker room in America, but with Maddon, who was being honored with a collectible gnome giveaway at Tropicana Field the same night, nothing comes as a surprise.
