Jaromir Jagr wasn’t the first player taken in the 1990 draft. In fact, he wasn’t the second, third or fourth player picked. Jagr lasted until pick No. 5 those 23 years ago, behind Owen Nolan, Petr Nedved, Keith Primeau and Mike Ricci.
Nolan was the No. 1 overall pick that year, selected by the Quebec Nordiques. He would go on to play 18 seasons in the NHL, spending time with seven different teams in that time.
While Jagr has gone on to a Hall of Fame career with several teams, Nolan was no “bust” himself. He was named to five All-Star teams and won a gold medal with Canada at the 2002 Winter Olympics.
