The Patriots surprised most everyone by selecting safety Tavon Wilson in the second round in 2012. They came with more of the same in the third round this year.
With their fourth and final pick on Day 2, the Patriots drafted Rutgers safety Duron Harmon.
Harmon, who was not invited to the NFL combine, measured in at 6-feet, 196 pounds at his Rutgers pro day last month. He was seen as a late-round prospect, but he does have the speed to be a good developmental safety. He ran a 4.51-second 40-yard dash and had a 36-inch vertical jump at his pro day.
He was the fourth Patriot player selected on the day, along with linebacker Jamie Collins (No. 52), wide receiver Aaron Dobson (No. 59) and fellow Scarlet Knight Logan Ryan (No. 83).
Harmon played sparingly during his first two seasons at Rutgers, but he played a major role in the secondary during his final two years with the Scarlet Knights. He managed 49 tackles and five interceptions as a junior, followed up by 50 tackles, seven pass breakups and one interception as a senior in 2012.
