Not even two years ago, Carson Palmer was worth a first- and second-round pick. Now the Raiders will be lucky to get a sixth- and seventh-rounder for two-time Pro Bowler.
The Raiders traded Palmer and a seventh-round pick to the Cardinals for a sixth-rounder in 2013 and a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2014 draft, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com. If Palmer starts 13 games for Arizona, the Raiders get the conditional pick. If he doesn’t, Oakland gets just the sixth-round pick.
Palmer agreed to restructure his deal in Arizona. The contract is worth up to $20 million over two years with $10 million guaranteed, according to Albert Breer of NFL.com. The USC product threw for 4,018 yards, 22 touchdowns and 14 interceptions last season for Oakland.
Palmer was considered one of the best quarterbacks in the league early in his career, but he hasn’t been the same since tearing his ACL and MCL in 2006 and injuring his elbow in 2008. Palmer joins a busy quarterback corps in Arizona with Brian Hoyer, Ryan Lindley and Drew Stanton. The Cardinals have already released Kevin Kolb and John Skelton this offseason.
