The No. 1 pick in Thursday night’s NFL draft has been surrounded in much more mystery than in recent years, but it appears the Kansas City Chiefs have finally come to a decision.
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reports that the Chiefs will select Central Michigan offensive tackle Eric Winston first overall.
Though this year’s draft is lean at many skill positions, it is loaded with talented linemen. New Kansas City head coach Andy Reid was reportedly considering Fisher and tackle Luke Joeckel of Texas A&M for the No. 1 selection.
At 6-foot-7, 306 pounds, Fisher draws comparisons to fellow Central Michigan alum Joe Staley, who was selected 28th overall by San Francisco in 2007 and earned Pro Bowl nods in 2011 and 2012. He will be the first lineman selected first overall since the Dolphins used the No. 1 pick on Jake Long in 2008.
The first round begins Thursday at 8 p.m.
