Jorge Soler is likely looking at a long suspension after his actions in a fight Wednesday night.
The Cubs prospect reportedly grabbed a bat and charged the opposition’s dugout in response to a bench-clearing brawl between the Single-A Daytona Cubs and Clearwater Threshers. After Soler slid into second base in an attempt to break up a double play during the seventh inning of the game, he and Threshers second baseman Carlos Alonso exchanged words. Both benches cleared, and the two teams returned to their respective dugouts without any punches thrown.
Then, Soler picked up a bat and stormed toward the Clearwater dugout. According to Bleed Cubbie Blue, Soler had to be pulled away and back into the dugout by a teammate and coach. It’s unclear if Soler hit anyone with the bat while swinging it in the dugout.
Soler is widely regarded as one of the top prospects in the Cubs organization. The outfielder entered Wednesday’s game batting .450 in five games with two home runs on the young season.
