Gary Payton, who played for the Seattle Supersonics, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics and Miami Heat, has been elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame, according to Scott Howard-Cooper of NBA.com.
Payton is considered one of the best point guards in NBA history. He was a nine-time All-Star and an NBA champion, averaging 16.3 points and 6.7 assists per game. His nickname, “The Glove,” came from his stellar defense: In his 17-year career, Payton was a nine-time member of the NBA All-Defensive Team and was the Defensive Player of the Year in 1996.
John Stockton will present Payton at the induction ceremony, according to SI.com. Bernard King, Mitch Richmond, Tim Hardaway, Guy Lewis and Maurice Cheeks are the other Hall of Fame finalists.
