The NFL draft welcomes a whole stash of new players to the league each spring, but it also marks the end for others. With the arrival of new talent comes the cutting of players who didn’t work out.
Such is the case for Patriots wide receiver Jeremy Ebert, who has been told by the team that he will be released, Mike Reiss of ESPN reports.
Ebert was taken with the 235th overall pick in last year’s seventh round, the only offensive selection for the Patriots in 2012. The Patriots had him lined up in the slot position behind Wes Welker and Julian Edelman before cutting him out of training camp. Although he returned to the Patriots last year after a brief time on the Eagles’ practice squad, he never rose above the practice squad and wasn’t expected to get any traction in a receiving group that now includes Aaron Dobson, Josh Boyce, Mike Jenkins, Matthew Slater, Andre Holmes, Kamar Aiken, Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman and Donald Jones.
Ebert played his college ball at Northwestern.
