Julian EdelmanJulian Edelman was all but auditioning for Wes Welker‘s role with the Patriots when last season began. But, with Welker gone to the Broncos, New England doesn’t appear too eager to bring Edelman back, even with the team short on receivers.

Now, Edelman, a free agent, is visiting the Giants, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Edelman has been a solid fill-in for the Patriots since being picked in the seventh round in 2009. A quarterback in college, Edelman slid into the role of slot receiver and return man rather easily, recording 69 receptions for 714 yards over four seasons in New England. He has returned a punt for a touchdown in each of the last three seasons. He has also struggled with injuries, however, and while he’s been a reliable producer when on the field, he hasn’t been on the field much.

There has been little information about whether the Patriots are interested in keeping Edelman, Yates reports.
