Robert Griffin III was recognized as the best of the rookie quarterbacks in 2012, beating out Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson to earn Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. But now, Griffin has topped an even more elite class of players.
His incredible rookie season started a cult following that saw him garner national attention and his jersey ultimately become the highest-selling in NFL history, according to NFL.com.
Griffin topped the list of jersey sales in 2012 and set the record for most jerseys sold in a single season on NFLProShop.com. He topped Peyton Manning, Ray Lewis, Colin Kaepernick and even Tom Brady, who each finished in order from No. 2 to No. 5 on the list.
Fellow rookies Luck and Wilson finished sixth and 14th respectively, showing just how much more popular the No. 2 overall pick in last year’s draft really is.
So, while Griffin’s play on the field put him in the conversation with Manning, Brady and other top-tier NFL quarterbacks, his popularity has set him apart in a class all his own.
