This week on “When Referees Attack”: a Russian soccer official loses his cool and attacks a player … a very young player.
Musa Kadyrov was working as a referee’s assistant in a game between the reserve teams of Amkar Perm and Terek Grozny on Sunday. He won’t make any calls in Russian soccer anytime soon after he assaulted an 18-year-old player at the end of the contest, World Soccer reports.
“He has only worked on a regional level but we made a decision to ban him for life, therefore he won’t be able to officiate matches at any level,” Chechen football chief Lom-Ali Ibragimov reportedly said.
There’s no word on what sparked Kadyrov’s fury. What we know is that he didn’t wait long after the head referee ended the game — approximately half of a second — to push Amkar defender Ilya Krichmar to the ground and kick him repeatedly.
World soccer has seen plenty of examples of players attacking referees in recent months, including a bloody scene in Indonesia and fatal incident in the Netherlands. Kadyrov shows what can happen when the victim becomes the victimizer.
