Ryan Dempster Goes for First Win in Red Sox Uniform, Jonny Gomes Gets Start in Left Field

While Ryan Dempster has been pitching well so far this season, the hurler has yet to snag a win in a Red Sox uniform. That could all change on Friday night, when the Sox host the 7-15 Astros in their second game of a four-game series at Fenway Park.

Dempster (0-2, 3.38 ERA) hasn’t allowed more than six hits or four earned runs in any of his first four starts with the Sox. Former Sox pitcher Erik Bedard goes for the Astros — he, too, is seeking his first win of the 2013 season.

David Ortiz has five career hits (one home run) against the lefty while Mike Napoli has three hits, two of which were of the long ball variety.

NESN’s coverage kicks off at 5:30 p.m. ET with Friday Night Fenway, while first pitch is expected just after 7:10 p.m.
