Watertown Police Chief Ed Deveau said his officers had been supporting the Boston Police Department all week. He just never thought the fight would come to his town.
“I am so proud of the men and women of the Watertown Police Department,” he said Monday morning on Dennis & Callahan, calling the manhunt for the Boston Marathon bombing suspects a “gutty” performance by his department.
Deveau said the Watertown Police had been supporting the efforts in Boston throughout the week, sending 12 officers to help.
“We never expected it to come to Watertown,” he said.
The situation quickly turned dangerous when the suspects were spotted in town, with a gunfight breaking out.
“Why Watertown isn’t planning funerals for one, two, three, four, five officers is incredible to me,” Deveau said.
