AFC Champiohship FootballWes Welker is making friends fast in Denver, but that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten his buddy in New England.

Welker said Wednesday on Mike and Mike in the Morning that he and Peyton Manning have already talked with each other and have gone out to dinner in Miami. He’s also exchanged calls with Tom Brady, though, and he says the two remain close despite Welker leaving for a new team.

“Tom’s one of my good friends, and we stay in contact quite often,” Welker said.

Welker compared the two likely Hall of Fame quarterbacks.

“I think they’re both extremely accurate,” he said. “They’re extremely smart players and have a good idea where the rush is, and moving around and buying time and getting the ball out quick and being smart and putting it right on the money. Not being the biggest guy out there, I definitely need a quarterback that can put it on you and just be able to read defenses like I do and see it the same way, and I think both guys do that well.”

Welker said he and Manning have already talked about the new schemes Welker will have to adjust to.

“We just kind of caught up and talked about the year and different things about the offense and stuff like that,” he said. “I’ll be working with him next week and start to get that process going.”

Welker also said in the interview that leaving New England for Denver was not personal.
