Three years ago, Daniel Nava sent the first pitch he saw in a Red Sox uniform into the Fenway Park bullpen for a grand slam. Starting in his first home opener at Fenway on Monday, Nava went deep again.
With the Red Sox and Orioles scoreless in the bottom of the seventh inning, the left fielder sent a Wei-Yin Chen offering over the Green Monster for a three-run homer that proved to be the difference in Boston’s 3-1 win.
Third baseman Will Middlebrooks, who was also playing in his first home opener, struck out with runners on first and third before Nava came to the plate, and he expressed his gratitude for his teammate’s clutch homer after the game.
Check out what Middlebrooks had to say about Nava’s blast and Chen’s strong performance in the video above.
