American Jack Sock Prefers Chipotle Over French Cuisine While at French Open

2When most people travel to Paris, they look forward to fine French cuisine such as French onion soup or creme brulee. That is, everyone except Jack Sock.

The 20-year-old tennis player instead prefers the friendly confines of a Chipotle while he is in town for the French Open. Over the past two weeks he estimates that he has eaten there roughly seven times.

Sock’s Chipotle obsession reached a new high in 2011 when he had it for dinner 18 straight times in hopes that it would help him win the U.S. Open boys’ title. His plan worked as he busted onto the U.S. tennis scene with the title in hand.

The young American isn’t making news for just his fast-food obsession, though. Sock has been impressive during his time at the French Open so far, as he has yet to drop a set. He had to win three qualifying matches to make the tournament, and once he did, he cruised to a straight-set win over veteran Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the first round.

His second-round match with No. 12 seed Tommy Haas was postponed on Thursday and is scheduled to be made up Friday morning.

Whether it’s the Chipotle or an innate talent, Sock is feeling right at home in Paris, a place where American tennis players are notorious for struggling as of late.

“Coming over here and playing on the real stuff has been great. I feel comfortable,” Sock told the Wall Street Journal.

“I feel like I can move well on the clay. So if I need to get into a longer rally, I can.”

Sock’s performance in Paris also comes as a surprise after he started off the year with a 5-12 record and a No. 118 world ranking before the French Open.

If he is able to beat Haas and stay in Paris a while longer, don’t expect him to change up his eating habits, as he plans on eating at the one Chipotle in the city as much as possible.

“[I] will be there as much as I can,” he said.
