Joe FlaccoFormer Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty has made a pretty bold observation after just two months with the Baltimore Ravens. After spending the four previous years with the New York Giants, it seems a bit surprising that Canty believes Joe Flacco is a better overall quarterback than his former teammate, Eli Manning.

Canty said in an interview with NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk that he’d take Flacco over Manning because “he won a Super Bowl and he’s one of the best deep-ball throwers in the National Football League. Take a look at the tape.”

Canty signed with the Ravens in March.

We can pretend for a minute that Manning hasn’t won two Super Bowl MVP awards to Flacco’s one. The two are very similar quarterbacks, but Canty said he just believes more in Flacco’s ability.

“He throws a beautiful deep ball, he throws it only where the receivers can get their hands on it,” Canty said.  “You’re talking about in the vertical passing game and they’ve got some vertical pass threats.  They got Torrey Smith.  They’ve got [Dennis] Pitta.  They’ve got [Ed] Dickson.  They’ve got some good weapons for him to use down the field.”

Manning did get his due credit from Canty for being “good in clutch situations when you’ve got to have that fourth-quarter drive.”

Either way, it never hurts to put yourself in the good graces of your current teammates.
