“Moooooom, George Maloof Jr. won’t come out of the closet!”

The full NBA board of governors, following the unanimous vote by the league’s relocation committee to reject the Maloof family’s bid to sell the Kings and move them out of Sacramento, voted down relocation 22-8 on Wednesday. George Maloof, of the family that owns majority control of the Kings (for now), then avoided reporters at the Dallas hotel where the vote took place the same way any of us would: By running and hiding in a closet.

Kings fan blog Sactown Royalty captured the emotion of the vote, and the absurdity of the aftermath, in an entertaining Twitter blow-by-blow.

Maloof eventually came out and spoke with Sacramento governor Kevin Johnson and a few others. No matter Maloof’s reasoning for retreating to a closet, the moment was a fitting epilogue to what has been a sloppy (presumed) end to the Maloof’s reign in Sacramento.
