Mike Trout added to his “youngest player ever to…” list in dramatic fashion Tuesday night.
The Angels outfielder nabbed Rookie of the Year honors last season and just about took the MVP award, too, and he’s kept up the impressive play this year. With a .293 average, 34 RBIs and nine home runs already this season, Trout doesn’t leave much to argue with when it comes to conventional statistics, so it’s about time he started chipping away at some of the quirkier feats in the game.
Trout did just that Tuesday night, hitting for the cycle — and leaving the four-bagger to the end. Trout went into his eighth-inning at-bat having already struck out (first inning) singled (third), tripled (fourth) and doubled (sixth). With the home crowd watching and waiting for the final hit, Trout came through, hitting a home run to become the youngest American League player to hit for the cycle at 21 years, nine months and 16 days old.
