Montel Harris, Former Boston College Running Back, Signs With CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Montel Harris, Nikita Whitlock, Scott BetrosMontel Harris won’t be suiting up for an NFL team this fall, but he will be continuing his football career north of the border.

After failed tryouts with the Buccaneers and Eagles, the former Boston College running back signed a rookie contract on Wednesday with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League.

Superfans will remember that, once upon a time, Harris seemed poised to become one of BC’s all-time greats. After setting a freshman record with 900 rushing yards in his first season in Chestnut Hill, Harris burst onto the national scene with 1,457 yards and 14 touchdowns as a sophomore, earning second-team All-ACC honors.

His stock continued to rise throughout his junior year, when he was named to the all-conference first team, but a pair of knee injuries limited him to just one game as a senior. Harris was granted a medical redshirt by the NCAA, but he was dismissed from the team for repeated rules violations prior to the start of the 2012 season.

Harris ended his BC career with 30 total touchdowns and a school-record 3,735 rushing yards despite playing just three full seasons. He transferred to Temple after his dismissal, where he rushed for 1,054 yards and 12 touchdowns last fall to garner first-team All-Big East honors in his lone season with the Owls.
