The phrase, “Boston Strong” describes the 2013 Run to Home Base event perfectly. For the first time in Boston since the events of the week of April 15, runners came together and ran through the city of Boston, with thousands crossing the finish line at Fenway Park.

As part of the opening ceremonies, members of the Massachusetts National Guard were recognized for their efforts as first responders at the scene of the Boston Marathon bombing on Patriots Day. The annual event, sponsored by New Balance, is put on by the Red Sox Foundation and the Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program, provides clinical care and support services to Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and families and is also engaged in cutting-edge research to improve treatment for PTSD and traumatic brain injury.

NESN’s own Tom Caron and Jenny Dell raised money and participated in the event. Caron recorded a time of 48 minutes, 56 seconds, while Dell came in at 56 minutes and 19 seconds.
