Report: Bill Belichick ‘Hates’ Tim Tebow as Player, Wouldn’t Want Circus He Brings

Tim TebowTim Tebow is still dangling out there on the free-agent market, but don’t expect the Patriots to nibble at the bait anytime soon.

Tebow has been rumored to have drawn interest from the Patriots a few times over the years, especially since Josh McDaniels, who spent a first-round pick on Tebow with the Denver Broncos, returned to the team as offensive coordinator. But Mike Silver of Yahoo! Sports reports that Bill Belichick doesn’t plan on signing Tebow. Silver says a source told him Belichick “hates” Tebow as a player.

Tebow is a gimmicky player, which would make it difficult to find playing time for him, similar to his situation with the Jets in 2012. A position change is one possibility, but that transition could take time, and the Patriots would likely have to sacrifice a few snaps for Tom Brady in order to accommodate the former Broncos and Jets quarterback. It appears the Patriots have no interest in that scenario, either.

“No chance. Plus, they wouldn’t like the circus that comes with it,” Silver says of the Patriots.

Belichick and the Patriots try to keep out of the spotlight, and having Tebow on the team would make that hard.

Belichick isn’t normally one to tip his hand about a player one way or the other, so there may still be some interest in Tebow at a position other than quarterback. While Belichick may “hate” what Tebow brings to the game as a player, he has praised Tebow’s attitude and work ethic before.

Then again, Tebow is as polarizing a player as the NFL has seen, and maybe Belichick just isn’t among the many he’s enchanted.
