It’s been more than two months since free agency started and seven-time Pro Bowler Dwight Freeney has finally found a new home.
Freeney signed a two-year deal with the San Diego Chargers. Freeney had been with the Indianapolis Colts his entire career since being drafted No. 11 overall in the 2002 NFL draft. The deal is worth $8.75 million, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
Freeney has 107 1/2 career sacks, which is good for fifth among active players behind John Abraham (122), Jared Allen (117), Julius Peppers (111 1/2) and DeMarcus Ware (111). The Chargers were in desperate need for a pass rusher after losing second-year player Melvin Ingram to a torn ACL during OTAs.
Freeney had a down year in Indy’s new 3-4 alignment in 2012, recording just five sacks in 14 games. The Chargers also run a 3-4.
