Report: Former Jaguars Receiver Jimmy Smith in Mississippi Jail Serving Six-Year Term for Cocaine, Firearm Convictions

Jimmy Smith, a Jacksonville wide receiver from 1995 to 2005, is serving six years in a Mississippi jail after convictions for possession of a firearm and cocaine possession, First Coast News reports. Smith received sentences of two years for the firearm conviction and four years for the cocaine charge. He went to jail March 29, and his release date is set for Nov. 8, 2018, according to Action News Jax.

Smith has had a troubled past, including drug possession charges in 2009.

In his playing days, though, he was one of the best, totaling 12,287 yards on 862 receptions, including an NFL-high 116 catches in 1999. He was a five-time Pro Bowl selection.
