Ryan Clark Tom BradyPittsburgh safety Ryan Clark has been putting in extra reps lately, clarifying some comments he made about New England quarterback Tom Brady.

While Clark hasn’t backed down from his initial statement — that Brady “sees ghosts” and ducks and flinches when pressured — he has made it clear in recent days that his assessment being true doesn’t necessarily make Brady any less of a quarterback.

First, Clark agreed with former Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi‘s view, that Brady avoiding pressure is smart since he needs to preserve his health for the good of the team. Now, Smith is kicking it up a notch and complimenting Brady with no reserve.

Clark was asked which quarterback he thinks is the hardest to face.

“Ghosts or no ghosts, I have to go with the greatest living American, and that’s Tom Brady,” Clark said, according to ESPN.com. “You know, I said what I said, and I do believe it, and it’s true. But when this guy has the opportunity to set up and throw the ball to his receivers, there’s nobody better at pinpointing guys out and making plays for his team. I mean, he’s a field general, he’s a winner, he’s a competitor, and Tom Brady, he’s given us some hard times.”

Clark has played 11 seasons in the NFL, the last seven of them with the Steelers.
