For Tony Allen and the Memphis Grizzlies, this towel really was terrible.
As the Thunder made a push in the third quarter of Game 5 on Wednesday night, Allen thought he would try to distract Derek Fisher while the Thunder guard attempted a shot. Standing beside the bench, Allen waved his towel to try to catch Fisher’s eye. But Allen’s grip must not have been as solid as he thought, because the blue towel (or maybe it was a T-shirt) flew out of Allen’s hand and onto the court, resulting in a technical foul.
