It’s been a rough week, Boston.
Sports are usually something that this city can hang its hat on, but things just haven’t gone our way over the past week or so.
The Celtics got it bad, as Doc Rivers was given permission to take his talents to Santa Monica Beach. (At least it’s not South Beach.) Now, the Celts are left looking for a new coach for the first time in almost a decade.
The Patriots got an unexpected dose of it, too. Pro Bowl tight Aaron Hernandez was connected to a murder investigation and has been under the watchful eye of the media and the police for over a week now. He was arrested Wednesday.
And, of course, the Bruins’ devastating loss in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final was just the cherry on top of the bitter sundae that was the past week in Boston sports. Yeah, we’re still sick about it, too.
Then again, maybe it’s not all bad. The Red Sox are still in first place, and that should count for something, right?
NESN.com NBA Editor Ben Watanabe and NFL Editor Luke Hughes got together for a special Boston sports podcast to discuss the woeful week for the B’s, C’s and, er, P’s?. The two tried to decipher exactly what happened to the Bruins in Game 6, discussed what penalties Hernandez might face from the NFL and what the Celtics’ future might hold.
So, toss your box of tissues back in the bathroom and join us in saying good riddance to this week in Boston sports.
