With Clay Buchholz still on the 15-day disabled list, Allen Webster will get his second straight start in place of the Red Sox ace.
Webster will look to earn his first career win and help the Red Sox extend their win streak to four games against a Toronto Blue Jays team that has lost three of its last four games.
Webster gave up five runs in 4 1/3 innings during his June 22 start against the Detroit Tigers and has yet to notch a quality start in his three spot starts this season. Friday’s match-up is going to be another challenge for Webster, as he will face a Blue Jays club that strung together an 11-game win streak before losing two out of three in Tampa Bay, along with the series opener Thursday at Fenway.
Toronto will counter with right-hander Josh Johnson (1-2, 4.60 ERA.)Â The 29-year-old is tasked with slowing down the hot bats of the Red Sox, who have notched 23 runs on 39 hits over their last three games. Johnson surrendered four runs on nine hits in a 6-4 loss to the Red Sox on April 5.
